Recessed lightsCan leak between the home and the attic.
Fireplace damperMake sure it closes tightly when not in use.
The test
On a windy day, hold your hand or a strip of tissue near edges and seams to feel or see moving air.
The fixes
- Weatherstripping and door sweeps
- Caulk around frames
- Foam gaskets behind outlet covers
- Added attic insulation
Space-heater safety
- Plug directly into a wall outlet — not an extension cord or power strip.
- Keep it at least three feet from anything flammable.
- Never leave it running unattended or while you sleep.
- Choose a model with a tip-over shutoff.
- Never use a gas oven, grill or fuel-burning heater indoors — carbon monoxide.
